Routes worth flying

Kathmandu–Pokhara saves six and a half hours each way and is the single best use of a domestic ticket in Nepal.

Kathmandu–Lukla has no realistic alternative unless you have three spare days to walk in from Salleri.

Kathmandu–Bharatpur for Chitwan saves five hours; the bus is comfortable enough that this one is optional.

Pokhara–Jomsom is a spectacular twenty-minute flight up the Kali Gandaki gorge, restricted to early mornings before the wind.

Booking

Book through an agency or the airline websites. Yeti, Buddha and Shree operate most tourist routes. Schedules shift; confirm the day before.

Frequently asked questions

Are Nepal's domestic flights safe?
Nepal's aviation safety record is poor by international standards and EU carriers remain on a restricted list. That said, millions of passengers fly domestically each year without incident. The genuine mitigation available to travellers is to avoid pressure to fly in marginal weather.
Why do foreigners pay more for domestic flights?
Nepal operates published dual pricing on domestic aviation and on many heritage sites. It is official policy rather than a scam, and the fares are posted openly.
