Larke La is crossed from Dharamsala (Larke Phedi) in a single long day — typically eight to ten hours to Bimthang, with 600 metres of ascent and more than 1,500 metres of descent on the far side. The approach is exposed and often icy before mid-morning; microspikes are worth carrying from late October.
